Easy on the hands
Works great. The bagels I get are just a little wider than those which would be a comfortable fit, but it still does the trick.
great concept, poor execution
I purchased this item from BB&B recently, hoping for a very quick (and less-messy) way to slice up the bagels that my husband has for breakfast every morning. To call what this unit does "slicing" is hardly accurate. More like "tears through". Keep in mind, these bagels cut fine under a break knife, but for whatever reason, when this blade makes contact with the bagels, it just started tearing through them. The end-result was 2 halves of a bagel that looked like they had been manually torn apart. Not to mention, the crumb-catcher is a great concept...but more of the toppings and bagel were stuck to the blade still (which you cannot get at to clean I might add), than ever appeared in the crumb tray.
Needless to say, I returned the unit, and will be looking for another option.

My kids love using this machine, it does a very good job. And the $20 beats a trip for stitches when a knife slips.
