Expensive, but worth it
We were given this waffle iron as a house warming gift, and I have fired up this baby every Saturday morning since we opened the box.
THE PROS
-Dummy proof. When it beeps, you open it up and take the waffles out. No more slowly opening it up and seeing a split waffle inside with the subsequent "NOOOOOO!"
-Heat adjustable. You can make light, fluffy waffles or darker, crispier waffles for your husband after he's asked his mother to come stay with you for a couple of weeks. And then even darker and crispier waffles for her when she's here. You know, hypothetically speaking.
-Drip tray attaches to the back to catch all of the excess batter you didn't know you poured in.
-Easy to keep clean. Just wipe it down inside and out after each use. Or, you know, wait for it to cool down and get to it a couple of days later.
THE CON
-It's a bit heavy and bulky. If you have the counter space it's great to keep out, since it is a beautiful...
Great until it failed
Bought August, 2009. Cooked great - we're not heavy users, once or twice a month. All of a sudden it doesn't heat up. Just four years old. ALL-CLAD says it is out of warranty, too bad. I think for $200 it should last longer. Made in China.
We have ALL-CLAD pots/pans, and are disappointed in this kind of attitude.
We can buy one that lasts a year for less than $50, also made in China. Get a new one every year.
We've already discouraged friends from buying.
Made the perfect Mother's Day present
I love our All-Clad 4-Square Waffle maker. Sure it's big and heavy like a shiny new Mercedes Benz, but like a Benz, it's a high quality piece that brings a smile to your face every time you use it.
I picked up this waffle maker from Williams-Sonoma for my wife's first Mother's Day. It was a hit. It's only marginally more expensive than the 2-square waffle maker, and is well worth the price, since we always put all four squares to work. It's easy to use. Just preheat it to your desired temperature and start working on your batter. You'll hear a beep and see a green light letting you know your waffle iron is ready to use. Brush it with some oil, pour about a cup of batter into each square, lock it up, and wait for the light to turn back on. That's it.
The waffle iron does heat up quite a bit, so you'll probably want to keep it out of the reach of curious little kiddos while you're using it. The catch tray in the back can also get a little messy when overflow oozes...
